I got to write stuff for Red Bull’s social entrepreneurship project, Amaphiko. The third South African edition — it all started here some 3 years ago — was held in Mamelodi, and featured guests ranging from football impressario Lucas Radebe, to former record label exec and now-Afropunk head lady in charge, Jocelyn Cooper.
I sat in lecture sessions with entrepreneurs whose interests were as varied as they were interesting. I wrote about the challenges and lessons from growing a social business, courtesy of Silulo Ulutho Solutions’ Luvuyo Rani; heard the fascinating tale of Sihle Tshabala, a former general in prison, and now successful entrepreneur; and listened to ‘m’e Mmanoko Mokgoenyana’s re-telling of Mamelodi’s storied past.
