Maftown Heights is 6 years old this year. I’ve been to 3 of them since 2013. Shout-out to Africanhhb for trusting me to represent them every year. I’ve had incredible experiences photographing the performances and the people. The event’s going to be held at the Mary Fitzgerald Square this year, next door the open fields in front of the Bassline where it’s been held for four (?) of its six years of existence. The first one was held inside the Bassline. Here’s a selection of images I took last year.

From the press release:
Known as one of SA’s key hip hop calendar events and one of the premier hip hop festivals on the continent, Maftown Heights offers a line-up of an eclectic blend of the best hip hop 2015 had to offer. The lineup features artists pioneering Motswako in Africa as well as leaders in the South African music industry across the genres of hip hop and Kwaito.

Maftown Heights’ move to Mary Fitzgerald Square this year is testament to the growth of the festival over the years. The expected turnout at this year’s festival will be approximately 13 000 people.

Some of the artists billed to perform this year include Fifi Cooper, JR, Riky Rick, Zakwe and Gigi Lamayne.
